Targeted landing pages are an experiment. That means trying different language, different layouts, and different messages --and combinations thereof-- to pinpoint the landing page that converts the most visits into sales. Essentially, your landing pages are the key(s) to search engine marketing success because they play one of the biggest roles in determining whether or not a search engine surfer will buy or not from your site.

The ad copy and the landing page copy need to compliment one another, but they have different jobs. The ad text is meant to grab a web searcher's attention and get them to click. The landing page copy is meant to convey the product and sales info, then close the sale. In order to do this, the message in the ad copy and the landing page must remain consistent. If you mention "free shipping" in the ad text, then "free shipping" should be clearly visible on your landing page: do not make your visitor's experience any more difficult than it has to be. Optmize your contact forms, auto-fill some fields if applicable, and give them several conversion exits (or buy now buttons).

In the design and layout of your landing page, omit anything that could possibly distract your visitor from buying your product or subscribing to your service. Resist the temptation to promote any other pages or products on your site. Remove any images, links, or navigation that do not directly work towards the goal of converting that visitor. If you want to offer them related products, services, or options, there will be another place for you to do so during the checkout process, but not on the landing page.
